In particular, the areas of expertise comprise: <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Data_mining\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Data Mining<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Text_mining\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Text Mining<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Information_extraction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Information Extraction<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/nlp.stanford.edu\/IR-book\/html\/htmledition\/link-analysis-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Link Analysis<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Data_visualization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Data Visualization<\/a> as well as more integrative areas such as <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Semantic_Web\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Semantic Web<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Knowledge_management\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Knowledge Management<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Artificial_intelligence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Artificial Intelligence<\/a>. Apart from research on theoretical aspects of data analysis techniques he has considerable experience in the field of practical applications and development of business solutions based on the innovative technologies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Marko<\/strong> was employed as a researcher first, at \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-lj.si\/en\/about_university_of_ljubljana.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Ljubljana<\/a>\u201d, \u201cComputer Science Department\u201d, and later at \u201cDepartment of intelligent systems\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/kt.ijs.si\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department for knowledge technologies<\/a>\u201d at \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ijs.si\/ijsw\/JSI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jozef Stefan Institute<\/a>\u201d in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ljubljana.si\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ljubljana<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slovenia.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Slovenia<\/a>. He is currently employed at \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ijs.si\/ijsw\/JSI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jozef Stefan Institute<\/a>\u201d the main national research institute for natural sciences in the country. His primary focus of research and applications is intelligent data analysis which deals with unconventional scenarios going beyond classical statistical approaches and solving problems including unstructured or semi structured data.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His main achievements are from the field of Text-Mining (analysis of large amounts of textual data), having leading role on scientific and applicative projects funded by <a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/index_en.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">European Commission<\/a>, having projects with industries such as <a href=\"http:\/\/research.microsoft.com\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft Research<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bt.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">British Telecom<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Times<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.siemens.com\/entry\/cc\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Siemens<\/a>, and organizing several international events on the related topics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He is also founder and CEO (from 2001 on) of the <a href=\"http:\/\/quintelligence.com\/?page_id=13\">Quintelligence Company<\/a> with the core business in transferring knowledge management and knowledge discovery\/data mining expertise into marketable products and services. <strong>Marko<\/strong> is also co-founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/cycorp.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CyCorp Europe Company<\/a> (European branch of US based Cycorp company) (from 2006 on) working in deep knowledge modeling and reasoning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Currently <strong>Marko<\/strong> co-manages (together with two co-managers) the team of 60 people where Marko\u2019s role is management and active work with the scientific and technical part of the team of 40 researchers, research programmers and software engineers. The key activities of Marko\u2019s team include development of new research ideas from innovation to research prototypes and industrial deployment through spin-off companies at later stages.
